From Finance to Fashion: Bozena Jankowska’s Ethical Revolution

From Warsaw to London, the journey of Bozena Jankowska is one woven with threads of finance, environmental advocacy, and a profound love for fashion. It’s a story of ethical conviction meeting sartorial vision, resulting in a brand that’s not just about beautiful clothes, but about a beautiful planet too. Honestly, it’s more than just clothes; it’s a statement.

A Finance Pioneer Turned Fashion Revolutionary

My path wasn’t always paved with silks and sustainable wool. For sixteen years, I navigated the world of finance, eventually becoming Head of Environmental, Social and Governance at a major firm. During that time, I saw firsthand the urgent need for businesses to embrace ethical practices. I remember being the “only” ethical analyst for years, it felt like I was the only one caring about sustainability in that world! It was tough, but it shaped my perspective and fueled my desire to create change. But then…well, then I decided to take a leap.

Leaving that all behind to start my own fashion label seemed like a crazy move to some. But I knew I could build a brand that prioritized sustainability from the very beginning, not as an afterthought, but as the very core of its being. It was a big risk, I won’t lie, but one I felt passionately compelled to take.

The Ode to the Bee: Inspiration and Collaboration

My collections are often inspired by the natural world, particularly the plight of pollinators. I’ve created entire collections in partnership with Buglife, a charity dedicated to invertebrate conservation. You know, the little things that keep our ecosystems thriving!

It’s not just about aesthetics; it’s about raising awareness and supporting organizations that are making a real difference. For example, our “Ode to the Bee” collection features sustainably sourced silk and wool from UK-based manufacturers. We ensure that all our materials are REACH certified, guaranteeing they meet the highest environmental standards. It’s a lot of work, trust me, but it’s worth it to know we’re not contributing to harmful practices.

Craftsmanship and Ethical Production

We’re deeply committed to slow fashion, which means producing locally, in limited quantities, and with meticulous attention to detail. Our clothes are made ethically in London, supporting local artisans and minimizing our carbon footprint. I believe in creating pieces that are not only beautiful but also made to last, both in terms of style and durability. No fast fashion here, thank you very much!

The Award-Winning Approach

Being recognized for our commitment to sustainability is incredibly rewarding. It validates our approach and inspires us to keep pushing boundaries. I never imagined that leaving finance would lead me here. It’s amazing when all the hard work is finally recognised with an award. I’m proud to be part of a growing movement of designers who are proving that fashion can be both stylish and sustainable. And honestly, I think that’s the future of the industry.

So, what’s next? Well, we’re continuing to innovate with new sustainable materials, expand our collaborations with ethical organizations, and empower consumers to make conscious choices. The journey continues, and I’m excited to see where it takes us. Oh, and did I mention we’re working on a new line of accessories made from recycled ocean plastic? Stay tuned, folks! It’s gonna be good.
